Abqaiq in a sentence

Last year, Washington blamed Tehran for sabotage attacks on supertankers and a missile and drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s Abqaiq crude-processing plant in September — the largest single supply halt in the industry’s history.

They all seem to forget Iran committed acts of piracy in the Strait of Hormuz or blew up the Abqaiq oil fields in Saudi Arabia.

Abqaiq has a crude oil processing capacity of more than 7 million barrels a day, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Abqaiq is home to the world’s largest oil processing facility and crude oil stabilization plant, where oil is made safe for transport on ships.

Abqaiq is the single most important facility in Saudi's oil industry, while Khurais is the second biggest oil field.

Abqaiq the world’s largest such facility, and the attack temporarily knocked-out nearly 6 percent of global crude oil production.

America said it was ready to tap its emergency oil reserves if needed after the attack on two oil plants, including the world's biggest petroleum processing facility in Abqaiq.

A military spokesman for Yemen's Houthi rebels, considered an Iranian proxy force in the region, claimed responsibility for the attacks on Abqaiq and Khurais, which are run by state-owned oil giant Aramco.

A subsequent visit to the Abqaiq plant, some 150 miles from Khurais, showed the restoration of further stabilization towers.

At Abqaiq, the attacks hit five oil processing towers and three were still being restored, Khalid Buraik, vice president of Aramco’s Southern Area Oil Operations, told several media invited to the facilities on Saturday.

During the meeting, Khan strongly denounced the attacks on Aramco's plants in Abqaiq and Khurais.

He also claims that debris from three cruise missiles that failed to reach Abqaiq were recovered from north of the site.

He said production at the Abqaiq processing facility is currently at 2 million barrels per day.

Kabir Taneja, Associate Fellow, Observer Research Foundation, said: “Saturday’s attacks have reportedly affected 5 million barrels per day of oil production from Abqaiq.

Leaders of the Iranian-backed Houthi rebel group claimed responsibility for the attack on the Abqaiq refinery, saying they launched drones from 500 miles away in Yemen.

Most of the oil produced in the country is processed at Abqaiq before export or delivery to refineries.

On Sunday, in an official statement, Aramco said that “Saudi Aramco emergency crews contained fires at its plants in Abqaiq and Khurais, as a result of terrorist attacks with projectiles.

State energy producer Saudi Aramco lost about 5.7m barrels per day of output on Saturday after 10 unmanned aerial vehicles struck the world’s biggest crude-processing facility in Abqaiq and the kingdom’s second-biggest oil field in Khurais.

Tensions escalated between arch-foes Iran and the United States after last weekend's attacks on Saudi energy giant Aramco's Abqaiq processing plant and Khurais oilfield halved the kingdom's oil output.
