It is Meta’s intention to use ActivityPub, which powers Mastodon as the platform for to integrate it with other decentralised social apps.

Instagram’s Twitter/X rival is furthering its expansion into the fediverse — the interconnected social network that includes apps like Mastodon, PeerTube and others running the ActivityPub protocol.

In the backend, standards are defined and used to enable federation, of which ActivityPub is one.

Messina noted that disappearing posts won’t be shared with the fediverse as Threads won’t be able to delete these posts from other ActivityPub-powered servers.
