The House of the Dragon storyline revolves around the Hightower family's involvement in the Dance of the Dragons civil war, with Alicent and Otto supporting the Greens.

Viserys dies in his sleep at the age of 52. After his death, his second wife, Alicent, and her sons scheme to keep Rhaenyra off the throne, leading to a deadly civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

At this point, Alicent has already given Viserys the son he so desperately wanted—further foreshadowing the battle over the Iron Throne to come.

But for Rhaenyra, apparently Jaeherys doesn't count for much because she still wants one of Alicent's own sons dead.

Carey also reflected on the backlash she received from fans when she said her character Alicent was not a straightforward villain, stating that viewers forget the amount of research and energy that actors put into their character’s wider narrative.

Could it be to meet with Alicent, to try and settle differences and put an end to the civil war?

In Episode 7, we see Alicent remove her outer dress and enter the lake, floating on her back as she looks up at the sky.

In "House of the Dragon" season 2, episode 7, "The Red Sowing," Alicent retreats in an attempt to hold on to frayed autonomy, which leads to a stroll through Kingswood and a cathartic dip in the lake.

In the very next scene, when Alicent confronts Ser Criston Cole, who also voted against her becoming regent, he tells her that they’ve given over the war to the dragons, and the most powerful dragon rider must now lead them.

I think for someone who tried to kill Rhaenyra out of duty and sacrifice in an eye-for-an-eye scene… this is a very different, humbled Alicent than we’ve seen before.

Of course, one of those scenes is the confrontation that happens between Rhaenyra and Alicent at Driftmark, after the fight between their children that leads to Aemond losing his eye.

Other major figures like Matt Smith's Daemon and Olivia Cooke's Alicent Hightower will also be back.

She hesitates for a moment, then, when Rhaenyra places the last of Lucerys' belongings on the fire, Alicent lights a candle for Lucerys as well.
