Ambersons

Before he took a seat in the director’s chair, Wise put in time as the editor of Welles’s masterpieces The Magnificent Ambersons.

In the new contract Welles was an employee of the studio citation and lost the right to final cut, which later allowed RKO to modify and re-cut The Magnificent Ambersons over his objections.

It was to have been his third film for RKO, following Citizen Kane (1941) and The Magnificent Ambersons (1942).

RKO took control of Ambersons and edited the film into what the studio considered a commercial format.
