Senator Mannion was joined by Assemblymembers Bill Magnarelli (D-Syracuse) and Al Stirpe (D-Cicero), who are endorsing his campaign on day one.

Some assemblymembers, including Savannah Fletcher and David Guttenberg called the request a waste of taxpayer money.

But Friedman’s recent yes vote on Assembly Bill 5—as well as that of 84 other California Assemblymembers or Senators—which Gov. Gavin Newsom has now signed as law, means many newspapers of all sizes may be put out of business.

At the state level, there are three state assemblymembers and two state senators representing parts of the city proper.
