Bürgergemeinde

The division of property between residents and the Bürgergemeinde proved to be lengthy and could not be completed until 1978 and then only with the help of the Executive Council.

The Einwohnergemeinde included all residents of the city, as opposed to the more limited Bürgergemeinde.

The municipal Bürgergemeinde laid claim to the assets of the defunct city-state and in 1801 it received the Sönderungsconvention, large estates and extensive forest land outside the city.
