Elgin Concerts in the Park: 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, in the Wing Park Bandshell, 1000 Wing Park, Elgin.

Kronos Quartet plays a free concert Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Golden Gate Bandshell in Golden Gate Park.

Usually those activities are festivals, fireworks, sales events in Pack Square, bands at the bandshell, etc. All of these could, operating under some guidelines, be over the limit of dBA and be allowed by a city permit.

There’s also a snow sledding hill at the bandshell (BYOSleds or use the tubes provided by Apex), Maple Roch maple syrup on snow and make-your-own-lanterns.

This year, however, organizers are planning to host the opening show at the Long Beach bandshell in Recreation Park.

A free raptor show by The Nature Connection's Chris Tolman, featuring several live birds of prey, will be held at the Detroit Lakes City Park Bandshell starting at 6 p.m. Visit natureconnectionmn.org for more information.

And now that the Rhythm Foundation has secured a new nine-year lease on the North Beach Bandshell, James Quinlan is confident the nonprofit has plenty of time to continue the hard work of community cohesion.

Taking possession of the stadium would also allow the city to “re-activate” Jackson Park’s 60-year-old bandshell, which has gone unused for 20 years partly because of its landlocked position facing the Windsor Stadium fencing.

After supper, we continued to walk and wound up following the sound of music to the Bandshell, where a performance of Italian opera selections was about to begin.

Now, shows are held in 18 parks across the city and the principal spot is Rumsey Playfield, which is so close to the old crumbling bandshell that you can see it from the top of the bleachers.

The annual series will return to Kingsborough’s Lighthouse Bandshell on July 6, and then every Saturday this month, setting the irresistible strains of cool jazz, hot swing, and classic big band sounds soaring along with the waterfront breezes.

Marchers will also leave Winona High School at 4:30 p.m. and head to Lake Park Bandshell for a rally at 5:30 p.m.

The short tour will close at the Great Bend Downtown Bandshell in Jack Kilby Square.
