Formal paperwork for Bennell’s contract will be lodged with the AFL in the coming days after talks in Melbourne between Bennell’s manager Colin Young and Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney this afternoon.

Bennell was charged in November 2016 after prosecutors received a file of evidence from Cheshire Police.

Bennell was compared to the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, luring boys to his homes, where he had arcade games and exotic pets including a puma and a monkey.
