Camelcase

A bactrian camel that illustrates the idiom, for its humpy appearance camelCase (also camel caps or medial capitals) is the practice of writing compound words or phrases such that each word or abbreviation begins with a capital letter (and omits hyphens).

For WikiWikiWeb, the CamelCase naming convention was used to indicate internal links, without requiring HTML code.

However, this reprocessing of the link to improve the readability of the anchor is limited by the loss of capitalization information caused by CamelCase reversal.

LiveScript introduces a number of other incompatible idioms: Name mangling At compile time, the LiveScript parser implicitly converts dashed variable- and function names to camelcase.

Originally, most wikis used CamelCase to name pages and create links.

Other names such as "InterCaps", "CamelCase" and variations thereof are relatively recent and more common in computer-related communities.

The first character of the given name can be capitalized to separate it from the type indicators (see also CamelCase ).

The result of this is that Alto programmers (including those using Mesa, Smalltalk etc.) conventionally used CamelCase for compound identifiers, a practice which was incorporated in PARC's standard programming style.

This does not preclude developers from using camelcase explicitly or using snakecase.

Using CamelCase between words reduces the number of spaces, and thus the number of characters, in a given message, allowing more content to fit into the limited space.
