He may have recently raised a red flag about government’s interference in the functioning of the judiciary, but Justice Jasti Chelameswar gave a huge relief to sitting and former Parliamentarians.

Asked whether the SC should have a permanent constitution bench, Justice Chelameswar said: “It certainly is an idea that I would welcome.

It does not matter whether there are administrative instructions or not but there should be a certain level of decency,” a bench of Justice J Chelameswar and Sanjay Kishan Kaul said.

On November 10 last year, a five-judge constitution bench had overturned the order passed by the bench headed by Justice Chelameswar, which had asked for setting up a larger bench to hear the matter of alleged bribes being taken in the name of judges.
