With his focus on housing, renter protections, and the needs of the poor in general, Scott ranks as a worthy successor to Chopp, who got his start as a rabble-rousing housing activist.

Though Chopp has a long list of accomplishments as the longest-serving House Speaker in Washington state history, he also struggles with a reputation for blocking or watering down progressive legislation.
