Convento

Amalfi has a long history of catering for visitors, with two former monasteries being converted to hotels at a relatively early date, the Luna Convento in the second decade of the 19th century and the Cappuccini Convento in the 1880s.

After the 1940s, the former church and convento were remodeled along more authentic lines suited to exhibits devoted exclusively to mission history.

A separate Convento settlement was founded downstream along the Santa Cruz River, near the base of what is now "A" mountain.

It stood on the west end of the convento so is often thought to be the church of the old mission.

The most common extant features at the mission grounds include the church building and an ancillary convento ( convent ) wing.
