A care home where a person was "at risk of choking" has been told to improve by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

A CQC report, published on June 23, found service leadership and whether they were safe required improvements.

Amanda Lyndon, CQC head of hospital inspection for adult social care, said: “When we inspected Marquis Court (Tudor House) care home, we found widespread and significant shortfalls within leadership which was impacting on people’s care.

An 'inadequate' score means a service is severely underperforming, and normally results in it being placed under special measures by the CQC, with further checks being carried out.

A spokesperson from Uplands Independent Hospital said: "We are aware of the recent publication of the CQC report on Uplands Independent Hospital, following an inspection in October.

As the service remains in special measures it will be kept under review and, if the CQC do not propose to cancel the provider's registration, will be re-inspected within six months to check for significant improvements.

Chief Executive Professor David Loughton CBE said: “We are proud to see that the CQC inspectors found some outstanding practice when they came to the Trust last year and highlighted some areas of improvement.

Cllr Kelly Grehan said she found the CQC report devastating.

CQC staff also spoke to relatives of those under Durbia's care.

Diamond Skin Care, an independent doctor which runs out of Abbey Field Medical Practice in Ypres Road, Colchester, was visited by officials from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in December.

During the CQC visit on January 12, inspectors discovered - among a number of issues - that there was no registered manager in post at the home, in breach of safety guidelines.

Following the inspection, the CQC said that it would consider enforcement action on the issues, however notes from the trust's latest board of directors meeting said that "a proactive set of actions" had been taken to address concerns.
