After conducting an investigation, the police traced the caller, identified as Sivasubramaniyan, 34, of Cuddalore, and arrested him near Marakkanam.

Official sources said that investigations revealed that P. Sabari, a staff in the hotel had procured the eggs with government seal from Mangalur, Orangur and Kudikadu in neighbouring Cuddalore district.

The DIG was received by Superintendents of Police R. Rajaram (Cuddalore) and N. Mohanraj (Kallakurichi district).

Accordingly, four lifers from the central prison in Cuddalore, 6 from the central jail, Coimbatore, and one each from the central prisons in Vellore and Puzhal in Chennai have been ordered premature release.

In Coimbatore and Cuddalore, cases continued to surge.

On its way the cyclone uprooted several trees and power lines in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore, Marakkanam and in Puducherry.

Puducherry received the highest of 30 cm rains followed by Cuddalore 27 cm and Chidambaram 13 cm.

The ruling AIADMK cemented three more wins after candidates secured the post of Panchayat Union Ward Member in Managalur, a pachayat town in Cuddalore district, Thalaivasal and Ammapettai, panchayat towns in Salem district respectively.

N Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Chennai, said the weather system would bring moderate rainfall from Wednesday evening over Tiruvallur, Chennai and Cuddalore districts.

The cyclone is most likely to affect low lying areas of Tamil Nadu such as Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore and Ramanathapuram which have been marked as vulnerable districts.
