Decemberists

A new book from the beloved local illustrator also captures her “bickering but inseparable friendship” with future husband Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy.

They cover artists as varied as Joni Mitchell, Queen, Patty Griffin, Tom Petty, Indigo Girls, and The Decemberists.

Cash took a risk working with a new producer, Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Decemberists), on some tunes instead of doing the entire project with her husband/producer/guitarist John Leventhal.

Bands like the Decemberists are doing fine, no doubt, but their sound isn’t exactly in vogue, pushed from the public sphere by pop and hip-hop.

The Decemberists somewhat ironically express the melancholy of winter in “January Hymn,” which is almost more about heartbreak more than it is about winter.

This was a spectacularly uneventful and underwhelming performance from the baroque pop outfit The Decemberists.
