For h+1 disks, take the graph of h disks and replace each small triangle with the graph for two disks.

At the time it was unclear if disks would replace magnetic memory drums, or whether fixed or removable disks would become the more prevalent.

Because only a limited number of holes could be made in the disks, and disks beyond a certain diameter became impractical, image resolution on mechanical television broadcasts was relatively low, ranging from about 30 lines up to 120 or so.

Double-sided disks could be used in some drives for single-sided disks, as long as an index signal was not needed.

Early 8‑inch and 5¼‑inch disks had physical holes for each sector and were termed hard sectored disks.

For one disk, the graph is a triangle: The graph for two disks is three triangles arranged in a larger triangle: The nodes at the vertices of the outermost triangle represent distributions with all disks on the same peg.

For the other disks there is always one possibility, except when all disks are on the same peg, but in that case either it is the smallest disk that must be moved or the objective has already been achieved.

Generally, the same drives were used to read and write both types of disks, with only the disks and disk controllers differing.

Later, Apple IIs were able to use 3.5-inch disks with a total capacity of 800 kB and hard disks.

Older examples are floppy disks, Zip disks, or punched cards.

Sizes main Different sizes of floppy disks are mechanically incompatible, and disks can fit only one size of drive.

The Disk II single-sided floppy drive used 5.25-inch floppy disks ; double-sided disks could be used, one side at a time, by turning them over and notching a hole for the write protect sensor.

The disks need to be as thin as possible at the edges in order not to introduce turbulence as the fluid leaves the disks.

The standard Apple II copy programs could not read such protected floppy disks, since the standard DOS assumed that all disks had a uniform 35-track, 13- or 16-sector layout.

The term "DASD" includes other devices beside disks. is a data storage device used for storing and retrieving digital information using one or more rigid rapidly rotating disks ( platters ) coated with magnetic material.

This is because even if the source(s) provides slow download speeds on individual disks, downloading several disks simultaneously will allow the user to achieve much greater download rates.

This was the first and by far the smallest of these collections, since at that time the game was distributed on 720k disks; subsequent releases were on 1.44mb disks then CD-ROM.

Unlike hard disks, floppy disks are handled and seen; even a novice user can identify a floppy disk.
