After activating DLSS, I got a whopping 113 frames per second on the MSI gaming laptop.

In the early days of DLSS and FSR, we saw a lot of games that supported only one of the two features.

Of course, DLSS 3 Frame Generation is supported too, so folks with RTX 4000-series GPUs can enjoy silky-smooth performance while dungeon-delving.

The same applies to DLSS 3.5’s Ray Reconstruction.

Turning on DLSS 3 roughly doubles this performance to 88 frames-per-second.

What sets it apart however is its vastly lower power draw (~40% less) and superior DLSS 3 performance as it edges the Ampere-based GPU significantly in terms of performance per watt.

Why is DLSS important?

Acer Nitro V laptops are equipped with AI-powered DLSS 3.5 technology which brings ray reconstruction for enhanced quality.

An example of this would be DLSS 3 with frame generation, which is only accessible on GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs.

But the quality comparison of DLSS to FSR sometimes loses context, particularly when you’re zoomed in on fine details that may not make a huge difference in the heat of the moment.

For instance, I’ve been playing a lot of recently, and although the game supports DLSS and FSR upscaling, it doesn’t come with frame generation.

In order for FSR 3 to be a true DLSS 3.5 competitor, it needs far more support than it has now.

Interestingly, AMD presents some benchmarks in games that don't support DLSS, namely Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (on the previous chart) and Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Presumably, this means with Intel’s XeSS or Nvidia’s DLSS.

There are already many games that support AI upscaling, which you’ll see as Nvidia DLSS, AMD FSR, or Intel XeSS in the display/graphics settings of said games.

You should be able to get over 60 fps on at least at 1440p with DLSS enabled, if your rig is similar to my set-up.

But until ray tracing, DLSS, and Nvidia’s other new technologies can be tested in actual games, we have no idea whether the RTX 2080’s secret sauce is worthwhile.
