Doubleness

Freud sees the doubleness of da Vinci’s portrayal of women (as both Madonnas and whores) as unconsciously linked to the mother-child relationship, especially in early care and breastfeeding.

Nevertheless, their "doubleness" depends only on this optical effect; the stars themselves are distant from one another and share no physical connection.

The artist cannot dispense with the principle of 'doubleness' or 'interplay' because this type of hendiadys dialogue is essential to the very structure of consciousness, awareness, and autonomy.
