Economicus

Our contentment with being homo sociologicus (social man) who is more proud of identity and culture than being the rationalizing, utilitarian homo economicus has had tragic consequences.

Neoclassical economists created the indefinitely abstract notion of homo economicus by following the same procedure.

Primary criticisms focus on failures to account for: the selfish nature of actors ( homo economicus ); exogenous tastes; the impossibility of utility comparisons; the exclusion of unpaid work; and the exclusion of class and gender considerations.
