At the Court of Appeal, Lady Justice Andrews and Lords Justices Birss and Edis ruled Mr Johnson and his fellow car buyers had not made a truly informed decision on finance because they did not know their dealership was being paid for the deal.

Mr Justice Murray, sitting with Lord Justice Edis and Judge Shaun Smith KC, said that while it was “thankfully, a highly unusual case”, the appeal was “arguable”.

Edis also plays six and twelve-string guitar, four and five-string bass, ukulele and percussion.

Mr Justice Edis made Venables the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and ordered that his laptop be taken away.

Sentencing Venables, Mr Justice Edis told him the images he downloaded were heartbreaking for any ordinary person to see this kind of material.
