A former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has urged the Federal Government to intervene in the alleged organ harvesting case of former lawmaker Ike Ekweremadu in the United Kingdom.

A Lawyer, Kayode Ajulo, has written to King Charles III, pleading for a Prerogative of Mercy for the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and wife, Beatrice over their conviction by a British court.

A UK court has on Friday sentenced former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months in jail for plotting to harvest a man’s kidney for his sick daughter.

Ekweremadu, 60, his wife Beatrice, 56, and Nigerian doctor Obinna Obeta, 51, were convicted in a British court of conspiring to exploit the man from Lagos.

A jury in London last year delivered guilty verdicts against Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, and a doctor for conspiring to exploit a young man from Lagos for his kidney.

Ekweremadu regretted that whereas democracy was supposed to be a government of the people, some politicians visit all nooks and crannies to mobilise votes during campaigns, but usually disconnect from the masses once elected into offices.

Umahi among other PDP governors and stakeholders in the south east furiously convened in Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s residence in Enugu and rejected Obi with the excuses that they were not consulted before the nomination.

Fact is: nobody is prepared to take the risk taken by Ike Ekweremadu and co and incur the wrath of the repressive state as they did and grievously suffered for it.

He described the assault on Ekweremadu as disappointing, grotesque and dangerous for Igbo solidarity.
