Our first day in D.C. included the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, followed by visits to numerous museums and historical sites.

Each of the eleven teams selected to participate is committed to preserving a traditional folklife art form that is deeply rooted in their cultural heritage.

That collection is preserved today as part of UNC-Chapel Hill’s Southern Folklife Collection at the Louis Round Wilson Library.

This year’s 48th annual Folklife Festival will feature everything that regular attendees have come to know and love, as well as more than any newbie could possibly have time to enjoy in three days.

Armenian Vardavar will be celebrated in Washington during the Smithsonian Folklife Festival dedicated to Armenia.

Rori Smith joined the staff after relocating to Maine from Washington, D.C., where she worked in special collections at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.

The commission also spearheaded the development of the Chattahoochee Indian Heritage Center at Fort Mitchell and had a successful folklife program for many years.

The events will culminate in the kick-off of the 2018 Smithsonian Folklife Festival on Thursday, June 28th, where Armenian culture an history take center-stage along with Catalonia.

He also participated at the Smithsonian's Festival of American Folklife (2008). citation ;Cinema Cinema Hall in Thimphu.

He is on the Board of Trustees of the American Folklife Center and has been a spokesperson for the "Save Our Sounds" audio preservation initiative.

In 1972 he joined the Department of Folklore and Folklife and became Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education in 1975.
