Actor Peter Fonda, the star and co-writer of "Easy Rider" and the son of acting legend Henry Fonda and brother of Jane Fonda, has died, his family confirmed Friday.

Peter Fonda is survived by his third wife, Margaret DeVogelaere, and his children, Bridget Fonda and Justin Fonda.

Fonda refused to participate until he learned that Ford had insisted on casting Fonda as the lead in the film version of Mr. Roberts, reviving Fonda's film career after concentrating on the stage for years.
