Functionalization

Functionalization of the surface of QDs with various types of molecules permits interaction with cellular structures or other molecules of interest for the purpose of investigating molecular-level biological processes.

This approach allowed the team to overcome the limitation of low data: there are relatively few late-stage functionalization reactions reported in the scientific literature.

Electrophilic substitutions Many electrophilic substitutions on pyridine either do not proceed or proceed only partially; however, the heteroaromatic character can be activated by electron-donating functionalization.

The two main methods of carbon nanotube functionalization are covalent and non-covalent modifications.

This is especially important when it is necessary to graft chemical functions to the surface of the nanotubes ( functionalization ) to add properties to the CNT.
