It’s the sort of story that guarantees a smile with some of the cleverest visual gags in comics today, and it builds upon the long, convoluted nature of DC Comics to make those gags land.

In a circus context, clown shows are typically made up of some combination of Entrées, Side dishes, Clown Stops, Track Gags, Gags and bits.

Between some genuinely heartfelt moments and good gags, this episode goes down a treat.

Combined with clips of artists like Healy kissing fans and sucking on thumbs, and meme-worthy moments — like Spanish pop star Rosalia's chewing gum stage sequence — it seems like the gags are what trend these days.

Devices like blindfolds, gags and chastity devices are used to amplify anticipation and restraint.

Each entry got increasingly outlandish and disgusting with its gags while leaving the sweeter elements behind; didn't even turn up for the third outing, and the film didn't acknowledge it.

Other days involves looking at new gags and ways of immersing the guests.

Some great visual gags (like Patrick looking for mustard and only finding gemstones) and slapstick beats give this episode extra seasoning.

Some of these running gags were so funny and memorable that they even appeared in the sequel anime as well.

Some of the sillier gags include his character and others' reaction to him, but the show is careful to pull itself back from the edge most of the time.

Studio Palette also incorporates many visual gags that presumably reflect the anime's limited budget.

That's why they're able to lampoon it so confidently, complete with plenty of gags that feel directly inspired by the extensive stage experiences of Ben Platt and Noah Galvin as co-writers (and they're also newly engaged).

The climax is laugh out loud funny and there are a few gags that worked but I smiled more than I laughed.
