A protest is happening in Leeds as a response to the major riots in Harehills.

A woman, who asked not to be named, has said she was walking a friend home in Harehills on Thursday night when she heard bangs coming from the bus which had been set on fire and started having a panic attack.

Sam Varley, 44, was found deceased at a property in Harehills on Monday, February 12.

The 26-year-old, who lives off Harehills Lane, said: “They were attacking police cars, throwing things at the police cars – anything they could pick up off the floor really.

The area of Harehills in the Yorkshire city descended into chaos after police were called to a disturbance at a property near Luxor Street.

The hearing was told of health concerns over the sale of illicit goods in Harehills, but there was no specific evidence of the shop selling to children.

We continue to work with the communities of Harehills and have engaged in several community meetings since Thursday evening.

West Yorkshire Police launched The ‘Community Harehills’ project last March.

By 7.30pm, gangs had set fire to a wheelie bin in Harehills Road and when officers were deployed to the scene they came under attack from fireworks.

Officers closed Harehills Road as they sought to contain the trouble, with a police helicopter called in to assist.
