Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke established a military intelligence unit, Abteilung (Section) IIIb, to the German General Staff in 1889 which steadily expanded its operations into France and Russia.

Lasers used by hobbyists are generally of class IIIa or IIIb (see Safety), although some have made their own class IV types.

Type IIIa is the removal and closure of the inner labia and IIIb the outer labia.
