Results are uploaded on the IREV directly from the polling unit after collation and announcement of such results by the Presiding Officer.

The IReV provides an easy way for citizens to verify the results, increasing the credibility and preventing electoral malpractices in the electoral process.

During the presidential election held on February 25, 2023, the commission could not immediately upload the results of the election on the IReV portal, which led to a public outcry.

Narrating the IReV problem, the INEC in its report, said it was first reported at 4 pm on Election Day and was partially resolved in four hours.

The decision to introduce a dedicated public election result viewing portal, known as “The INEC Result Viewing (IReV)” which enabled Nigerians to view polling unit results in real-time as voting ended on Election Day.
