The Congress leaders in Punjab have accepted an alliance with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party as their risk of going to jail had become very evident, state BJP chief Sunil Jakhar Monday said.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann Friday slammed state BJP president Sunil Jakhar for ‘putting foot in his mouth’ by telling a ‘naked lie’ on the rejection of Punjab tableau for the Republic Day parade in Delhi.

Jakhar’s remarks came on the 20th day of the agitation led by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and the SKM (non-political) at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.

Meanwhile, during discussions on the Governor’s address, Congress MLA Sandeep Jakhar emphasized the need for a roadmap to address the crisis facing the peasantry and called for a special session to discuss the agriculture policy.

Reacting to the developments, Jakhar in a statement said: “The farce perpetrated by Mann at Khatkar Kalan on Sunday was the most despicable and I condemn it in the strongest words,” adding “Punjabis will never tolerate this transgression”.

Sandeep Jakhar has been suspended from Congress.

When the Punjab Congress, between October 4 and October 6, 2020, followed up by holding a tractor march across the state to protest the farm laws, Jakhar was seen driving the tractor rode, when he visited the state to join the protest.

Jakhar further said that Akalis were more concerned about enjoying the fruits of power rather than protecting the interests of the state and its people.

Prior to this, CM Amarinder had hosted Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, PPCC president Sunil Jakhar and three MLAs.

Terming it a case of ‘seeking our right’, Mr. Jakhar said Punjab was not begging but merely asking for its rightful share.

The president of Punjab Congress, Sunil Jakhar, said that for the sake of votes, Sukhbir has always supported the Dera chief, thereby backstabbing panth.
