Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will lead an all-party delegation across the border to Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan on the opening day of the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9, it was announced on Wednesday.

Pakistan opened the Kartarpur border in November to facilitate visa-free pilgrimage by Indian Sikhs to Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara, where Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak Dev spent the last 18 years of his life.

In June, the restored statue of the first ruler of the Sikh Empire, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, which was earlier damaged by religious extremists, was unveiled at Kartarpur Sahib in the presence of over 450 visiting Indian Sikhs.

With India being the home for more than 95 per cent of all Sikhs globally, pilgrims from all over India always demanded access to Kartarpur Sahib, which is Narowal District, in Pakistan's Punjab Province.

Immigration officials here confirmed that so far there has been no indication from Union government to open the website for registration to visit Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara in Pakistan.

Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara is located in Pakistan’s Narowal district across the river Ravi, about four kilometres from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine.

According to the pact, Pakistan will allow 5,000 Indian pilgrims daily to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.
