Collection of all kerbside bins across the city will be one day later for the remainder of the week.

Maitland City Council will offer a new bulky waste kerbside collection service in 2023, in a huge benefit to local households.

Yarra Ranges Council will be holding in person and online information sessions to break down how the new Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) kerbside collection service will work for consumers.

Zero Waste Scotland provided funding for an external assessment of the kerbside collection service in 2021.

A Hammersmith and Fulham spokesperson confirmed the intention is to extend the food waste collection service to non-kerbside properties later in the year.

A report highlighting the need for a shake-up of kerbside collections was considered by councillors this week following a drop in local recycling rates.

A spokesperson said: “22 percent of black bin waste is still made up of food waste, with another 20 percent made up of recyclable material that could be collected at the kerbside.

Plans to introduce glass and other kerbside collections at home could be confirmed in the future as part of the national roll out of ‘Simpler Recycling’.

Soft plastics are ‘flexible’ plastic packaging that can be easily scrunched in your hand, such as bread bags, chip packets, bubble wrap, ziplock bags, which are not accepted in kerbside yellow-lid recycling bins.

The draft document also suggests the council “consider introducing an enforcement policy for residents who consistently refuse to recycle their waste at the kerbside, where other methods of encouraging recycling have not proved effective”.

The rest of the cash would be for the council to buy vehicles to carry out the kerbside collection.

The Waitaki District Council is looking at two different options for its own kerbside waste collection service.
