The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun and the defence headquarters today paid a condolence visit to the widow of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoheed Lagbaja, Mrs. Mariya Lagbaja, at his official residence in Abuja.

Gov. Godwin Obaseki, who flagged off the exercise, expressed the state government’s appreciation to Lagbaja for ensuring provision of strong and adequate security in the state.

He remarked that the mandate of the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja, clearly emphasises the significance of jointness and intelligence sharing in the defence of Nigeria.

Lagbaja gave the warning on Friday at the graduation of 654 battle-ready troops of ‘Exercise Restore Hope V’, at the Nigeria Army training Center Kachia, Kaduna State.

Lagbaja urged officers and men of this Division to brace up for the Year 2023 training and operational activities so as to surpass the successes recorded in 2022 in the onslaught against all criminal elements.

Similarly, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja is now the Chief of Army Staff.

Taoreed Lagbaja, to celebrate with the troops was an indication of the enhanced synergy about to be infused into future operations.

The Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Taoreed Lagbaja has inaugurated several projects aimed at boosting welfare of officers and men of Guards Brigade in WU Bassey and Mambilla Barracks.

Abdulssalam said the aims and objectives of the exercise were in line with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Toareed Lagbaja’s command philosophy.

During his address, General Lagbaja urged the troops to tackle the security challenges in the region head-on by actively pursuing insurgents in their hideouts.

Lagbaja, 56, was appointed Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu on June 19, 2023.

Lagbaja reportedly died on Tuesday and his passing was announced Wednesday morning by the Special Adviser to the President on Information &Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
