LORDSTOWN, Ohio – The Lordstown Village Planning Commission has approved the site plan for the Ultium Cells LLC battery plant, the final step in the permitting process for $2.3 billion plant.

LORDSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — General Motors is moving to shut down as many as five North American factories in a major restructuring, but there are more than jobs riding on the fate of at least one of them: Ohio’s Lordstown assembly plant.

Foxconn’s investment in Lordstown hasn’t materialized yet and this means the company could lose its major source of funding.

If Lordstown fails to raise additional capital, the company may be in a bad spot.

In its fourth-quarter 2022 financial results, Lordstown indicated it would shift focus from the Endurance to a new EV likely using Foxconn-sourced components, and likely built at the same Ohio plant.

In Lordstown, Ohio, workers added 28 cars.

In response, Lordstown warned in a regulatory filing that failure to resolve the dispute may require it to curtail operations.

Key for Foxconn will be scoring the first big customer to anchor its Ohio plant, which currently builds a small number of electric Endurance pickup trucks for Lordstown Motors, in which it owns a stake.

In April, Lordstown Motors pushed back the launch of its Endurance electric-powered pickup to January 2021 because of COVID-19, the disease spread by the coronavirus.

Lordstown Motors has released a video spot that closely resembles a traditional American pickup-truck ad, with the Endurance electric truck being used by farmers and construction workers.
