Lulucf

The sectors of agriculture and land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) have seen their emissions fall by 18% since 1990 but since then have remained stubbornly high.

You can see this by toggling in the chart above to exclude emissions from what is known in carbon accounting as “land use, land-use change and forestry”, or LuluCF.

Human activities impact terrestrial sinks, through land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) activities, consequently, the exchange of CO2 (carbon cycle) between the terrestrial biosphere system and the atmosphere is altered.

Mitigation can be achieved through activities in the LULUCF sector that increase the removals of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from the atmosphere or decrease emissions by sources leading to an accumulation of carbon stocks.

This projection excludes both LULUCF and credits generated by the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
