A number of other accidents took place in the previous week, including a four car pile up on 2 April on Maroondah Highway and on 5 April a young driver was also involved in a car rollover in Gruyere in the early morning.

Maroondah Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged an 18-year-old man and he was bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

Police attempted to intercept the car, but it took off travelling at a fast rate of speed, at times allegedly travelling on the wrong side of the road on Maroondah Highway.

Its UHI effect was on average 3.7 degrees hotter than the leafy, eastern suburbs in Maroondah.

For example, Yarra Ranges Shire on Melbourne’s eastern fringe has experienced tree-cover loss of almost 5 per cent since 2014, eastern suburban Maroondah has shed more than 3 per cent of its canopy cover and Mornington Peninsula has lost 3 per cent.

It's caused knock-on effects on the Maroondah Highway as well.
