An independent report prepared for the Group of 20 major economies said changing the way the bank and other multilateral development banks (MDBs) operate could unlock hundreds of billions of dollars in additional funds.

On the other hand, MDBs account for a third of the debt with K1.7 trillion portfolio for the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and Trade and Development Bank and K742 billion owed to bilateral creditors, mostly in China and Saudi Arabia.

A potential mismatch between vaccine supply and demand “is not a commercial risk efficiently mitigated by the market or the MDBs,” the Citi advisors wrote, referring to multilateral development banks such as the World Bank.

This means that the impact of decentralisation and the establishment of new MDBs is neither good nor bad, but rather conditional on how well they can work with existing institutions.

MDBs can be used to receive messages from clients asynchronously using either a JMS Queue or a Topic.
