It asks U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to work with the Malian authorities on a plan to transfer MINUSMA’s tasks and present it to the Security Council by Aug. 15. It calls on Mali to cooperate fully with the U.N. during MINUSMA’s withdrawal.

The exact process by which MINUSMA will draw down is unclear at this point.

The insecurity in Ber, which caused peacekeepers to leave earlier than planned, has become an early testing ground for post-MINUSMA Mali.

By all accounts, the Liberian military lived up to this creed during ten years of support (2013-2023) for the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

Germany has used the base in Niamey since 2013 as a supply hub for its forces in neighbouring Mali where they were serving as part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission MINUSMA.

MINUSMA was established following fighting between Government forces and Tuareg rebels in January 2012, leading to the occupation of northern Mali by radical Islamists.

Still, "things would be worse without MINUSMA," reckons IVERIS' Varenne.

THREE MEMBERS OF the Defence Forces deployed with the United Nations MINUSMA mission in Mali have been injured after a device exploded close to their convoy.

MINUSMA, the UN mission in Mali, condemned the raid and said its peacekeepers were helping Malian troops secure the region.

And most recently the MINUSMA mandate.

These acts will not deter MINUSMA’s determination to support the Malian people in their quest for peace and stability.

The UN Stabilization Mission in Mali, MINUSMA, has become the most dangerous place in the world to serve as a ‘blue helmet’.
