United Nations: The United Nations has expressed “serious concerns” after its female employees were barred from reporting to work in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Tuesday.

A member of the Nangarhar provincial council was among those killed and a member of Afghanistan's lower house of parliament was wounded.

Twenty-four civilians were killed and 68 others wounded in a suicide bomb explosion at a funeral in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nangarhar on Tuesday, the country’s Interior Ministry said.

At least 30 people were killed and 28 wounded in the drone attack in Nangarhar Province, according to local government officials, who blamed United States aircraft.

But a Nangarhar province spokesperson said only nine bodies had been recovered so far, and U.S. officials are countering the reported deaths altogether.

In result of the attack, four people including two civilians and two police were martyred and 13 people including a member of the security forces were injured, Nangarhar governor, Shah Mahmoud Myakhail said.

The Afghan government strongly condemns today’s suicide attack in a mosque in Nangarhar province in which 26 innocent Afghans lost their lives and many others wounded.

The blast took place in Haska Mina district in Nangarhar province, and wounded at least 40 people, provincial police spokesman Mubarez Attal told AFP, adding that the dead were “all worshippers”.

A large number of people in these border provinces – mainly Kunar, Nuristan, Paktika, and Nangarhar – have been forced to evacuate their homes and move to safer locations.

Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor of Nangarhar, confirmed a car bomb was responsible for the blast in the town of Ghazi Aminullah Khan, on the main Torkham-Jalalabad road, and said that dozens were wounded.

Both Taliban and IS militants are active in eastern Afghanistan, especially in Nangarhar Province.

Inamullah Miakhial, spokesman for Nangarhar regional hospital, said one person was killed and at least 14 wounded were brought to the hospital.

In May, IS fighters targeted the Afghan state television building in Nangarhar’s provincial capital, Jalalabad, killing six people.

IS has been active in its stronghold of eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province, where it first emerged in 2015.
