A number of other TDs such as Independent TD Mattie McGrath, who was All-Ireland set-dancing champion in 1974, has also raised the matter, as has Labour’s Alan Kelly and Independent TD Denis Naughten.

Politician Denis Naughten who represents Roscommon-Galway, said the community was in shock.

The €54 hike in electricity bills from this Thursday has been described as “completely unjustifiable” by local TD Denis Naughten.

Mr Naughten said that the groups involved in the talks should be expanded saying that the supermarkets have a role to play.

Denis Naughten said, “Illegal dumping is first and foremost a matter of individual responsibility and compliance with the law.

I am delighted to see the inclusion of this measure in the General Scheme of this important Bill,” said Naughten.

Naughten had earlier told the Dáil today that he had offered to pass over the NBP process to his junior minister, or to another line Cabinet minister, but this offer was refused by the Taoiseach.

This was, and remains, a major error on the part of Minister Naughten.
