Twenty-six disenrolled Nooksack citizens live in federally funded housing.

The centre had issued a flood warning for the Sumas River as the nearby Nooksack River in Washington state swelled over its banks, but the forecaster downgraded the warning later on Sunday, saying water levels across the border were receding.

The details all lined up: Smith, a member of the tribe, worked at the Nooksack Tribal Health Clinic, and the cellphone she used to log in to the Williams account was issued to her by the tribe.

The Nooksack empties into Bellingham Bay, the Dungeness and Elwha into the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
