Oppressor

The binary of oppressed vs. oppressor, a key assumption in the so-called enlightened world of the woke left, has put Jewish life and Jewish issues in the oppressor box, no questions asked.

At worst it serves as a polemic of half-truth arguments from the victim-oppressor worldview ascendant in the politics of identity.

Because all of our arguments and initiatives come from our side, and like they come from our side, they’re easily dismissed as oppressor propaganda.

Given the enormous power differences between Jews and Palestinians and the forceful subjugation of the latter group, the Jewish nation rapidly converted itself in an oppressor nation of the Palestinians.

Israel is more than a mere occupier or oppressor in this narrative, it is a rebellion against God and the divinely ordained trajectory of history.

It is an effective tool in our society right now because one political power has decided to use the oppressor/oppressed idea and wield it as a political bludgeon.

Siding with Israel would, under that lens, put China on the side of the colonial oppressor.

What does it mean to serve a God that looks exactly like your oppressor?

And I feel like we need to get the labor movement, the environmental movement, the abolition movement, all of these groups are fighting the same oppressor.

A younger generation sees Israel more as Goliath than David, more oppressor than oppressed.

Be quiet, remain subservient, and wait for the oppressor’s good will.

But sometimes progressive views – especially the habit of categorising people as either oppressor or oppressed – lacked nuance.

So while the war has put Israel back in the oppressor camp, this is no longer enough of a victory.

The net of the oppressor is usually wide, enticing and cooling.

The predominantly leftist media outlets have played a pivotal role in shaping a narrative that often favors the oppressor under the guise of fighting imperialism.

They also tend to see right and wrong through the very narrow lens of oppressor versus oppressed.

We wanted them to to come along and to feel that they were also lied to, that they were also made to become almost like the oppressor.

In fact, as many social justice warriors and the so-called anti-racists acknowledge, discrimination is often essential to promoting equity as long as the discrimination is aimed at oppressor groups.

So at this juncture, the citizen oppressor fears the oppressed.
