Oxenholme

The incident was reported at 9.24am this morning at Oxenholme station and Network Rail tweeted that the West Coast Main Line between Lancaster and Oxenholme was currently closed in both directions due to the incident.

For passengers planning to depart from Lancaster, alternative transport to the nearest stations with step-free access, Oxenholme for northbound journeys or Preston for southbound, can be booked in advance.

For the work to take place some sections of the West Coast main line will be closed during Sunday 30 April or Monday 1 May, between Lancaster and and on the Lakes line between Oxenholme and Windermere.

The 10p fares are available on various routes in Cumbria, including Windermere to Oxenholme, Barrow-in-Furness to Manchester Airport, and to Lancaster and Preston.

Officers are asking for people with CCTV or ring doorbells in the areas of Airethwaite, Burneside Road, Kirkbarrow and Oxenholme to check their systems and report if they see anything suspicious.

The train network around the county connects passengers from Oxenholme to or on the coastal routes from Arnside via Barrow and on to Carlisle – the latter hugging the coastline almost the entire journey.

Stations affected will be Birmingham Curzon, London Euston, Old Oak Common, Oxenholme, Penrith and Stafford.
