French Defence Minister Florence Parly has urged governments in the Sahel to uphold human rights during military operations, in a report on the progress of France's regional Operation Barkhane before the French senate's foreign affairs committee.

Parly specified that space should not become "a new Wild West", but experts say that outer space could become militarised soon.

To conclude her whirlwind Gulf trip, Parly met with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Khalid Bin Mohammed al-Attiyeh on Monday to discuss increasing bilateral ties between the two nations.
