Nevertheless, the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) and SJWCD cooperated on the purchase of the Running Iron Ranch in 2008, for $10 million, based on a promise that PAWSD customers would pay off the loan.

The PAWSD board, which has the sole right to sell the property, is open to the idea of a sale, if it would get PAWSD ratepayers out from under a massive debt burden.

According to the press release from the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District, published this week in the PAWSD is currently drawing from the San Juan River to service District 2 — via the Snowball Water Treatment Plant.

August 27 has now come and gone, and PAWSD has not yet entered “Stage 1 Mandatory Drought Restrictions” for the simple reason that the reservoir levels have not yet dropped to a 70 percent level.

The latest PAWSD press release shows lake levels only slightly down from last week.
