The rapid switch was the result of scheduling happenstance — Begich had RSVP’d for the Fairbanks debate, and Peltola had done the same for the TV debate.

They also said that it was important for them to vote to keep ranked-choice voting and that they chose Mary Peltola for Alaska’s U.S. House seat and Vice President Kamala Harris for President.

Trump-backed Republican U.S. House candidate Nick Begich was ahead of Democratic incumbent Mary Peltola for Alaska’s lone congressional seat the morning after election day, but because of ranked choice voting those results weren’t finalized by press time.
