According to Perthes, one of the main challenges in holding talks is getting the representatives to a neutral location, likely either Saudi Arabia or South Sudan.

Speaking from Port Sudan, UN envoy Mr Perthes said they still face daunting challenges in getting the two sides to abide by a real halt in fighting where violations are prevented.

Her health began to deteriorate in the 1990s due to a resurgence of Perthes’ disease and her battle with uterine cancer.
