Rog Ally in a sentence

Asus has finally given its hotly anticipated ROG Ally a price and release date (you can read my full thoughts on the device in our Asus ROG Ally review).

But after using the ROG Ally for just about every purpose possible, I've been picking up my Steam Deck to play games.

Connectivity options on the Asus ROG Ally include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and a USB Type-C port.

Even in this mode, consumption sometimes exceeds the theoretical 10W, but you still get at least three hours of mobile gaming fun from the ROG Ally.

For a final word on price and by extension on the ROG Ally’s value proposition, we’ll have to wait until later this year.

For the sake of comparison, the ROG Ally and Legion Go are the same price, with the Legion Go offering a slightly more expensive version for a fair upgrade to storage.

It seems Asus has fixed those issues between the time reviews hit and when the ROG Ally went on sale, and it now performs better than the Steam Deck at lower wattages.

Prior to the launch of the Asus ROG Ally, the seemed like the front-runner in the handheld PC gaming world, however, it has a somewhat limited library, only allowing you to play games on Steam.

The Asus ROG Ally comes in a sleek white casing, with RGB features in certain locations for that pop of colour that we PC gamers hold near and dear.

The company’s new docking station is an all-in-one kit for supporting the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, and more, and it’s all packaged in something that looks very similar to the old Super Nintendo console.

The one thing that is holding me back from picking up the Asus ROG Ally myself, even though I gave it a glowing five-star review, is the price point.

There's much more to this setup than performance, though, and the more I used the ROG Ally with the XG Mobile, the clearer that became.

The ROG Ally can run any emulator you could run on a standard Windows PC, and tools like RetroBat and EmuDeck make configuring several emulators at once a breeze.

The ROG Ally isn’t perfect, either, with fierce competition from the Steam Deck.

The ROG Ally sports a 40-watt-hour battery, and based on our testing, it lasts about two hours in a demanding game in its default Performance mode.

Unfortunately, our in-game experience with the ROG Ally was fairly limited.
