Pilecki

Zack Leigh-Pilecki, a 24-year-old from Jasper, Indiana, is currently facing a challenging battle with stage 4 testicular cancer.

As early as 1941, Pilecki’s reports informed the Western Allies of the atrocities being committed at the death camp, from where he organised a resistance movement.

Eventually, when he realised that his meticulous accounts of the unfolding genocide had left both his and the world’s leaders unmoved, Pilecki staged a breathtaking escape in 1943, during which he was shot.

Fighting from within: Pilecki created a new organization inside of the camp called the Union of Military Organization this merged with another organization operating behind the camp’s walls.

Nonetheless Pilecki took up the challenge, got himself arrested in an SS round-up and was duly transported to Auschwitz.

Pilecki was the only known person to volunteer to be imprisoned at Auschwitz concentration camp, spending 945 days there.
