List of piperidine medications Minoxidil is a piperidine derivative widely used to prevent hair loss.

The piperidine functional group is named after the former, and piperazine (which is not found in P. nigrum in noticeable quantities) was in turn named after piperidine.

A significant industrial application of piperidine is for the production of dipiperidinyl dithiuram tetrasulfide, which is used as a rubber vulcanization accelerator.

This group also includes piperidine alkaloids coniine and coniceine Hesse, p. 31 although they do not originate from amino acids.

Thus, piperidine and tetrahydrofuran are conventional amines and ethers, with modified steric profiles.
