Plasticizers

Superplasticizers (also called high-range water-reducers) are a class of plasticizers that have fewer deleterious effects and can be used to increase workability more than is practical with traditional plasticizers.

The scope of testing includes heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury), pesticide residues (including glyphosate), plasticizers (including BPA, BPS, and phthalates), and label claim substantiation.

The main sectors that consume Phthalic Anhydride in India are Plasticizers, Alkyd Resins and Unsaturated Polyester Resins, UPR.

A good example of the action of plasticizers is related to polyvinylchlorides or PVCs.

A pipe has no plasticizers in it, because it needs to remain strong and heat-resistant.

It is made softer and more flexible by the addition of plasticizers.

Plasticizers are also put in some types of cling film to make the polymer more flexible.

Plasticizers are generally small molecules that are chemically similar to the polymer and create gaps between polymer chains for greater mobility and reduced interchain interactions.

The most common plasticizers are derivatives of phthalic acid.

These plasticizers are used similarly to those derived from terephthalic acid ester.
